"Con la sua autorevolezza ed esperienza, contribuirà nella missione di promozione e diffusione del sapere medico-scientifico in tutto il mondo", sottolinea Menarini in una nota. Punto di riferimento mondiale nella lotta contro il diabete, con una vita al servizio della comunità scientifica, Stefano Del Prato vanta una carriera di successi. I suoi studi incentrati sulla fisiopatologia e sulla ricerca di terapie innovative per la cura del diabete di tipo 2 e dell’insulino-resistenza gli sono valsi la carica di chairman della Fondazione europea per lo studio del diabete (Efsd) e di presidente di numerose società e associazioni internazionali, tra cui l’Associazione europea per lo studio del diabete (Easd) e la Società italiana di diabetologia. Attualmente è il presidente dello European Diabetes Forum. Nel 2011 gli è stata conferita l'onorificenza di commendatore dell'Ordine della Repubblica Italiana per meriti scientifici. "Sono molto orgoglioso del ruolo di presidente della Fondazione Menarini che mi accingo ad assumere - è il primo commento di Del Prato - Orgoglioso perché la Fondazione Menarini, nell’arco di quasi 50 anni di attività, è diventata un punto di riferimento del dialogo scientifico internazionale, certificato com’è da un comitato scientifico che annovera tra i suoi membri personalità del calibro di Louis J. Ignarro, premio Nobel per la Medicina del 1998.
