Parallelamente, l'Antitrust comunitario ha spiegato in una nota di aver avviato accertamenti anche sull'App Store di Apple e Amazon, per i meccanismi di "ranking", cioé di posizionamento dei risultati nelle ricerche."Queste decisioni di aprire indagini di non conformità - ha spiegato Margrethe Vestager, Vicepresidente esecutivo della Commissione europea responsabile dell'adattamento europeo all'era digitale - arrivano solo due settimane dopo che il termine di attuazione è passato e dimostrano che la conformità al Digital Markets Act è qualcosa che prendiamo davvero sul serio". I funzionari europei hanno riconosciuto che alcuni cambiamenti sono già in corso, ma ritengono che non siano ancora sufficienti.Si ritiene, infatti che gli algoritmi che regolano gli app store e i motori di ricerca sotto indagine possano mostrare agli utenti dei risultati falsati che mettano in evidenza prodotti delle rispettive case madri piuttosto che un ventaglio di opzioni - anche gratuite - che tengano conto dell'intera offerta sul mercato.Inoltre, Meta ha offerto agli utenti di Facebook e Instagram un abbonamento a pagamento per evitare la pubblicità, acconsentendoperò a fornire i propri dati personali. Un'opzione che per Bruxelles, "non offre una vera alternativa".L'indagine potrebbe portare a una gigantesca multa nei confronti dei colossi americani della tecnologia.
