ginnastica artistica, così poco vestite, facevano scandalo. Eppure è stata la Ginnastica Roma ad anticipare i tempi, con un’importante squadra femminile, mentre durante il ventennio fascista la stessa Società brillò con la squadra maschile di pallacanestro. Roma sportiva riuscì a recuperare il tempo perduto nella diffusione della pratica sportiva anche amatoriale, che fu “importata” dalla borghesia del Nord ◆ L’articolo di VITTORIO EMILIANI► Sono socio onorario della Ginnastica Roma fondata nel 1887 e presieduta anche dal mitico sindaco laico Ernesto Nathan che guidò la Giunta Capitolina nel quadriennio 1907-1911 con radicali, repubblicani e socialisti riformisti realizzando municipalizzazioni storiche e opere rimaste nella storia, come quelle per la Esposizione Universale del 1911.Sul campo all’aperto della Ginnastica Roma prima di Porta Pinciana la squadra di pallacanestro ha vinto negli anni 30-40 alcuni scudetti nazionali con giocatori di grande valore come Tracuzzi. Fu anche una società laicamente pionieristica nel campo dello sport femminile con una squadra di ginnastica artistica di alto livello. La nudità femminile, anche in tuta, faceva scandalo nella Roma papalina. La Ginnastica Roma non trascurava anche i cimenti sul Tevere che costituivano una sorta di prolungamento dei propri impianti di terra. Come attestano i numerosi diplomi conseguiti in quegli anni. Roma, per il protrarsi sino al 1870 dello Stato Pontificio, era ovviamente molto arretrata negli impianti e nella pratica anche amatoriale dello sport. I primi a promuovere tale pratica erano stati i borghesi immigrati dall’Italia del Nord. I quali avevano dato vita anche ai primi Club, ai primi Circoli borghesi. Fra Piemontesi ad esempio. Nel canottaggio per il quale il Tevere debitamente regimato si prestava e sul Tevere, all’altezza di uno dei ponti principali, sorgeva la sede societaria della Tevere Remo. Con coraggio alcune dame della aristocrazia avevano aperto la strada pure alla pratica sportiva femminile nonostante essa fosse vista come una forma di peccato mortale dalle gerarchie ecclesiastiche.La stessa costituzione di società calcistiche è avvenuta con difficoltà anche per il non facile reperimento di spazi liberi necessari in una città in cui la speculazione immobiliare ed edilizia ha spesso spadroneggiato a danno del verde. Tipico il sacrificio dello storico Stadio di Testaccio dove crebbe il grande calciatore e poi tecnico Fulvio Bernardini detto Fuffo, ceduto negli anni ’20 alla Internazionale di Milano dove si laureò in Economia e Commercio.Col regime fascista Roma divenne il centro strategico delle manifestazioni e delle esibizioni di massa del regime. Ma si trattava di una sorta di verniciatura superficiale che non comprendeva le strutture. È durato anni lo stesso cantiere dello Stadio Olimpico disagevole da utilizzare per il calcio a causa della pista di atletica fra il pubblico e il campo di gioco.
