(askanews) - Il Venezuela ancora sull'orlo del caos, i leader dell'opposizione venezuelana, che si ritiene abbiano battuto Nicolas Maduro nelle contestate elezioni presidenziali della scorsa settimana, hanno esortato la polizia e le forze armate ad abbandonare il presidente e i suoi "interessi spregevoli".In una lettera aperta alle forze di sicurezza venezuelane, Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia e Marìa Corina Machado hanno affermato di aver ottenuto una vittoria "a valanga" su Maduro alle elezioni del 28 luglio, una conclusione supportata dalle analisi dei dati elettorali condotte dall'Associated Press e dal Washington Post e a cui sono giunti anche un numero crescente di governi occidentali. Poche ore dopo che la lettera è stata pubblicata sui social media, il procuratore generale Tarek Saab ha annunciato che avrebbe avviato un'indagine penale contro Gonzalez e Machado per aver incitato la polizia e i funzionari militari a infrangere la legge.Gonzalez e Machado hanno accusato il presidente in carica di aver condotto una "brutale offensiva" contro i leader e i sostenitori dell'opposizione con la "ridicola intenzione di nascondere la verità" sulla vittoria schiacciante di Gonzalez e di aver rubato le elezioni per assicurarsi un terzo mandato.La questione venezuelana ovviamente divide i governi dell'America Latina, con i paesi guidati da politici di desta che appoggiano l'opposizione e quelli di sinistra che sostengono, con dei distinguo, Maduro.
