stato presentato a Cannes 2023 e aver conquistato il premio di miglior regia. Una storia d’amore sulla complessità del gusto e dei sentimenti, ma soprattutto sull’importanza dell’essenzialità delle gioie della vita. Juliette Binoche e Benoît Magimel interpretano una coppia che non si è mai sposata e che vive in sintonia nella passione comune per l’arte culinaria. Interpretazioni magnetiche e regia incantevole per quest’opera unica nel suo genere ◆ La recensione di GIULIA FAZIO► Per Juliette Binoche, in tutto il suo ardente splendore ne Il Gusto delle Cose, l’autunno non arriva mai poiché, come dirà il suo personaggio nel film, «anche quando me ne sarò andata, sarà sempre estate». In Francia, con il titolo più fortunato La Passion de Dodin Bouffant, Trần Anh Hùng si è aggiudicato la miglior regia a Cannes 2023 con questa opera poetica e ammaliante. Ambientata sul finire del XIX secolo, Eugénie (Juliette Binoche) è una cuoca che lavora da oltre vent’anni con il famoso gourmet Dodin (Benoît Magimel). L’alchimia tra i due dà vita a piatti prelibati e a una simbiosi artistica che si tramuta anche in una relazione sentimentale. Nonostante il legame che li unisce, Eugénie non ha mai voluto abbandonare il suo status di cuoca per quello di moglie, fino al giorno in cui Dodin cercherà di convincerla ad accettare la sua proposta d’amore.In quest’opera, rispetto alle tante che affrontano il tema della gastronomia, la cucina diviene pura arte, il cui processo di preparazione riempie la scena sin dai primi fotogrammi: una lunga sequenza dove unici rumori sono le pentole e la camera danza con i protagonisti nella cottura di arrosti, salse e varie leccornie. La cura nel dettaglio e la premura per il cibo sono anche espressione d’amore: Eugénie non siede alla tavola con Dodin e i gourmands suoi ospiti, ma rimane nella sua cucina assaporandone il gusto attraverso il processo. Trần Anh Hùng, regista vietnamita già vincitore a Cannes nel 1993 per Il Profumo della Papaya Verde, mostra tutta la sua bravura e meticolosità nel muovere la camera con coreografie perfettamente congegnate che permettono allo spettatore di vivere gli ambienti e prendere parte alle preparazioni.  La camera osserva e ci fa empatizzare con pazienza e grazia, ammaliati dai quadri che si presentano ai nostri occhi. La fotografia di Jonathan Ricquebourg riscalda gli ambienti al tramonto, li inonda di luce durante il giorno e li rabbuia nella parte più malinconica della vicenda. Quadri di fine Ottocento che prendono corpo nelle composizioni della messa in scena: armonia e bellezza di una storia colma di passione gastronomica e sentimentale. Non vi sono colonne sonore per una scelta coraggiosa di dar valore al silenzio, al suono delle cicale in giardino e della natura che circonda il magnifico castello di Dodin. L’essenzialità è la parola chiave di un film che vuole coinvolgere senza eccedere, sensuale ma mai sontuoso. La protagonista Eugénie è il carattere del film: donna rivoluzionaria, forte e indipendente. È dedita al lavoro, e preferisce mantenere la sua indipendenza piuttosto che sposare Dodin e diventare una moglie. I due attori, che hanno condiviso un rapporto sentimentale anche nella vita, ci regalano delle interpretazioni magnetiche, con sfumature personali che ben risaltano la chimica tra i due innamorati. Il regista vietnamita ci insegna così il gusto della semplicità: l’arte culinaria come dedizione, la necessità della tavola come una poesia da gustare, e non da divorare. La passione della coppia è celata e pudica: un lento sorseggiare di un vino pregiato di borgogna che sprigiona le sue note sensuali in armonia con le pietanze.
