(askanews) - Una nuova sfida politica - e giudiziaria - per la Catalogna e, indirettamente, anche per il premier spagnolo socialista Pedro Sanchez a Madrid: l'ex presidente del governo regionale catalano (Generalitat) Carles Puigdemont, riparato a Bruxelles da oltre sette anni per sfuggire ai mandati di arresto dei giudici spagnoli per aver organizzato nel 2017 un referendum sull'indipendenza della comunità autonoma dichiarato incostituzionale da Madrid, ha annunciato il suo rientro in Spagna in occasione dell'investitura domani del nuovo capo dell'esecutivo regionale, il socialista catalano Salvador Illa. Puigdemont è stato eletto deputato regionale e potrebbe dunque assistere a pieno titolo all'atto di investitura di Illa nel parlamento catalano a Barcellona; salvo che su di lui, malgrado la legge di amnistia per i reati collegati all'organizzazione del referendum voluta proprio dal governo di Sanchez a Madrid, pende ancora un mandato di arresto del Tribunale Supremo spagnolo. Puigdemont ha spiegato così la sua decisione in un video pubblicato su X (ex Twitter): "In condizioni democratiche normali, sarebbe inutile che un deputato come me annunciasse la sua intenzione di partecipare alla seduta, non avrebbe importanza. Ma non viviamo in condizioni democratiche normali", perché, ha detto, "il Tribunale Supremo si rifiuta di obbedire alla legge di amnistia approvata e in vigore". "A questa sfida bisogna rispondere, bisogna affrontarla: per questo ho intrapreso il viaggio di ritorno dall'esilio". Dopo un acceso dibattito politico e pubblico la legge di amnistia è stata approvata ed entrata in vigore a giugno, ma a inizio luglio il Tribunale Supremo ha deciso che nel caso di Puigdemont non l'avrebbe applicata ad alcuni dei reati di cui è accusato.Sullo sfondo c'è anche una partita politica, dato che il nuovo governo regionale catalano che dovrebbe insediarsi domani è guidato dai socialisti, emanazione dello stesso partito del premier spagnolo. Pedro Sanchez ha infatti voluto l'amnistia per cercare di chiudere il capitolo della grave crisi politica legata alla repressione del referendum del 2017, per la quale centinaia di esponenti e attivisti dei partiti indipendentisti sono stati arrestati e condannati a pene di prigione e multe.
