(askanews) - Ha compiuto il suo primo test in volo l'aereo XB-1, prototipo dell'Overture primo jet supersonico civile al mondo sviluppato in modo indipendente dall'azienda privata americana Boom Supersonic come sostituto del glorioso Concorde.Il jet ha volato per la prima volta nei cieli dell'Air & Space Port di Mojave, in California, pilotato dal capo pilota collaudatore Bill "Doc" Shoemaker mentre il test pilot Tristan "Geppetto" Brandenburg era ai comandi del chase plane T-38 che monitorava l'XB-1 durante il suo battesimo dell'aria. Questo volo inaugurale segna un'importante pietra miliare verso il ritorno dei voli di linea supersonici dopo il pensionamento del jet anglo-francese di British Aerospace e Aérospatiale nel 2003.
