È capitato in Italia, nella serata di domenica 5 novembre 2023, dove in molti sono rimasti sorpresi nell'osservare lo straordinario fenomeno, che è stato visibile anche in altre zone d'Europa, per esempio in Austria, in Romania e in Ucraina. Queste immagini sono state girate proprio nelle regioni di Kharkiv, Odessa, Zaporizhzhia e Kherson, le stesse colpite dalla guerra. L'aurora boreale è un fenomeno atmosferico causato dall'interazione del cosiddetto "vento solare", il flusso di particelle provenienti della nostra stella con il campo magnetico terrestre. Atomi e molecole, eccitati dall'attrito, generano queste luci dai colori fantastici che vanno dal verde a varie sfumature di rosso, viola e di rosa, protagoniste di autentici spettacoli mozzafiato.Normalmente siamo abituati a immaginare le aurore boreali nei Paesi nordici come Islanda o Alaska, vicini al Polo Nord; lo stesso succede con le aurore australi nell'altro emisfero.
