Potenza. Il piccolo, trasferito con eliambulanza, è stato, una volta arrivato a Napoli, immediatamente portato in sala operatoria dove ad attenderlo c’era una équipe composta da chirurghi, anestesisti ed endoscopisti che, con la supervisione del dottor Giovanni Gaglione, direttore della UOC di Chirurgia Pediatrica dell’AORN Santobono-Pausilipon, ha lavorato sinergicamente per diverse ore per rimuovere per via endoscopica la batteria che era incastrata nell’esofago. “Sapevamo di stare facendo una corsa contro il tempo ed è stato un lavoro di squadra. La pila è stata estratta endoscopicamente, ma eravamo pronti a intervenire anche chirurgicamente” racconta il dottore Gaglione. PERCHÉ È PERICOLOSO INGERIRE UNA BATTERIA“Ingerire una disk battery - spiega - può, infatti, provocare danni seri anche nel giro di poche ore. In sei ore si può verificare anche la perforazione dell’esofago”. “Il rischio principale, a parte il rilascio di sostanze dannose e tossiche - aggiunge - soprattutto per le batterie al litio, è che si generi una corrente elettrica tra la batteria e i fluidi dei tessuti. Questo rilascio di corrente provoca gravi ustioni interne che, se non c’è un rapido intervento medico, può portare a danni permanenti o, nei casi più gravi, addirittura alla morte per emorragie interne. Come nei casi di ustioni, inoltre, i tessuti continuano a danneggiarsi anche per diversi giorni dopo la rimozione del corpo estraneo. È per questo che ancora non possiamo sciogliere la prognosi”.IN CASO DI INGESTIONE ANDARE IMMEDIATAMENTE IN OSPEDALEIl piccolo, al momento, non è più in pericolo di vita, ma è ancora ricoverato in terapia intensiva ed è sotto stretta osservazione.“Gli accessi in pronto soccorso per ingestione di corpi estranei sono molto più frequenti di quello che si immagina. Le batterie, in particolare quelle al litio, sono pericolosissime perché, spesso, vengono scambiate dai più piccoli per caramelle.
