Trump, parlando in conferenza stampa in Florida, ha cercato di mascherare il cedimento rilanciando e proponendo altri due dibattiti Tv: oltre a Fox il 4 settembre anche su Nbc il 25. E, al suo solito ha insultato l'avversaria: "Non ha rilasciato un'intervista. Non può farne, è incompetente"Trump ha anche detto in conferenza stampa che ci sarà "un passaggio delle consegne pacifico" dopo le elezioni, ma ha alimentato i dubbi aggiungendo di sperare "che saranno elezioni oneste". Diversi analisti americani hanno notato che il tycoon sembra ora puntare sui dibattiti, proprio come era accaduto in passato a Biden, per risollevare una campagna che sta perdendo visibilmente spinta e iniziativa.
