(askanews) - La Nasa ha di recente comunicato di aver testato, con successo, un nuovo sistema di comunicazioni laser destinate allo Spazio profondo. Si tratta del Deep Space Optical Communications (Dsoc); un esperimento che, superando ogni aspettativa, ha permesso di trasmettere dati per oltre 226 milioni di chilometri, in tempi relativamente brevi.È un sistema innovativo che, in futuro, potrà consentire comunicazioni e scambio di dati, video e immagini in alta definizione più rapidi ed efficaci con sonde in volo ai confini del sistema solare o con gli equipaggi di missioni interplanetarie, per esempio sulla Luna e su Marte, grazie a una tecnologia che consente una velocità di trasmissione che supera da 10 a 100 volte quella dei più moderni sistemi di radiofrequenza in uso. Il test è stato effettuato grazie alla missione Psyche, lanciata il 13 ottobre 2023 e in rotta verso l'asteroide omonimo, attualmente in volo a una distanza che supera una volta e mezzo quella tra Terra e Sole, appunto oltre 226 milioni di chilometri. La sonda ha trasmesso a terra dati a una velocità massima di 25 Mbps. Unico problema è che, affinché le comunicazioni ottiche funzionino regolarmente, c'è bisogno di cieli sereni.
