(askanews) - È fissata per le 17.11 ora della Florida (le 23.11 in Italia) del 17 gennaio 2024 la partenza del lanciatore Falcon 9 di Space X dalla base Nasa di Cape Canaveral che porterà nello Spazio la navetta Crew Dragon "Freedom", con a bordo 4 astronauti della missione spaziale commerciale Ax-3 della compagnia privata americana Axiom Space.Tra loro, l'italiano Walter Villadei, pilota della Freedom, Colonnello dell'Aeronautica Militare al quale la Difesa italiana ha affidato la missione "Voluntas" per condurre, nell'arco di 2 settimane, diversi esperimenti scientifici e testare nuove tecnologie a bordo della Stazione Spaziale Internazionale, anche per conto dell'Agenzia Spaziale Italiana (Asi) e dell'industria nazionale oltre che, naturalmente, per la stessa Difesa.Questa missione, però, rappresenta molto di più per l'Aeronautica Militare e per il sistema Paese, perché di fatto apre una nuova era nei voli spaziali, grazie al supporto di compagnie private come la Axiom Space che presto metterà in orbita la prima Stazione Spaziale commerciale della storia, i cui moduli, tra l'altro, sono costruiti in Italia da Thales Alenia Space, a Torino che, inizialmente sarà attraccata alla Iss come elemento aggiuntivo per poi staccarsi e diventare autonoma e sulla quale si potrà andare a fare ricerca in microgravità, anche per scopi commerciali o, appunto, di difesa, con importanti ricadute per tutti noi sulla Terra, nell'ambito della cosiddetta new space economy.
