(askanews) - In vista della realizzazione del nuovo elettrodotto sottomarino Tyrrhenian Link, che collegherà Campania, Sicilia e Sardegna, Terna sperimenta il trapianto di una prateria di Cymodocea nodosa, una pianta acquatiaca fondamentale per l'ecosistema marino, tanto da essere stata protetta dall'Unione Europea in quanto svolge un'azione di protezione della linea di costa dall'erosione e di difesa della biodiversità, oltre che di cattura dell'anidride carbonica.La società proprietaria della rete di trasmissione dell'energia elettrica italiana ha avviato infatti le attività di riposizionamento di circa 20.000 talee di questa pianta in prossimità dell'approdo di Fiumetorto, nel Comune di Termini Imerese, in provincia di Palermo. Il progetto, che ha una valenza sperimentale non essendo mai stato effettuato per questa specie, su così larga scala e in mare aperto, è stato seguito in ogni sua tappa da personale di Terna, in collaborazione con il Consorzio nazionale interuniversitario per le scienze del mare e con la società Econ.Un lavoro condiviso con il Ministero dell'ambiente e della sicurezza energetica, attraverso il supporto dell'Istituto superiore per la protezione e la ricerca ambientale. Nel dettaglio, il trapianto prevede il reinserimento nell'ecosistema marino delle talee su circa 1.200 metri quadrati di fondale, ad una profondità di 10 metri. L'attività si svolgerà in due fasi: un trapianto iniziale di 800 metri quadrati e, dopo due anni, un secondo intervento per altri 400 metri quadrati che beneficerà delle esperienze maturate attraverso la replica delle tecniche sperimentali che avranno mostrato di dare i migliori risultati negli anni precedenti.Una volta completate le attività di trapianto, inizierà un piano di monitoraggio ambientale quinquennale, che punta a rilevare la riuscita nel tempo delle operazioni, attraverso un opportuno protocollo di campionamento.
