(askanews) - A distanza di un anno e mezzo dal primo impatto controllato della storia di un veicolo spaziale terrestre - la sonda DART (Double Asteroid Redirection Test) della NASA - contro un piccolo asteroide - Dimorphos a circa 10 milioni di chilometri dalla Terra - per modificarne la traiettoria e testare le capacità di difesa planetaria contro una potenziale minaccia di collisione con la Terra, il gruppo internazionale di ricerca, guidato dall'Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica (INAF), ha potuto analizzare la composizione della nube di detriti e di polvere (plume, in inglese) espulsa dall'asteroide.L'impatto avvenuto a 22.500 Km all'ora, infatti, era stato fotografato in diretta dal piccolo cubesat italiano Liciacube (Light Italian Cubesat for Imaging of Asteroids), costruito per l'Agenzia Spaziale Italiana (Asi) dalla torinese Argotec, dopo essersi staccato da DART e i suoi strumenti hanno raccolto e inviato sulla Terra 426 immagini e importanti dati su quanto accaduto a Dimorphos - una sorta di "luna" del fratello maggiore Didymos - dopo la collisione con DART. Il materiale espulso dal cratere d'impatto - hanno spiegato, i ricercatori nello studio pubblicato dalla rivista scientifica Nature - ha formato un cono con un angolo di apertura di circa 140 gradi e una struttura complessa e disomogenea, caratterizzata da filamenti, granelli di polvere e massi singoli o raggruppati. Le immagini mostrano che la parte più interna della coda - simile a quella di una cometa - aveva un colore bluastro e diventava via via più rossa con l'aumentare della distanza da Dimorphos.
