(askanews) - L'ultima missione spaziale indiana ha completato un passo fondamentale nel secondo tentativo di atterraggio sulla Luna, con la separazione del modulo lunare dalla sezione propulsiva.Le immagini arrivano dall'Organizzazione indiana per la ricerca spaziale (Isro) che ha confermato che il modulo lander della Chandrayaan-3, che in sanscrito significa "nave lunare", si è "separato con successo" dal modulo propulsivo sei giorni prima dell'atterraggio previsto per il 23 agosto. L'Isro ha dichiarato che il modulo di propulsione ora "continua il suo viaggio nell'orbita attuale per mesi/anni", come parte degli sforzi per studiare gli esopianeti, o pianeti al di fuori del sistema solare. Gli strumenti a bordo "eseguiranno uno studio spettroscopico dell'atmosfera terrestre e misureranno le variazioni di polarizzazione delle nubi sulla Terra per studiare esopianeti che potrebbero qualificarsi come 'abitabili'".La nazione più popolosa del mondo ha un programma aerospaziale con un budget relativamente basso ma si sta rapidamente avvicinando alle altre potenze spaziali. Se il resto della missione andrà secondo i piani, il lander atterrerà in sicurezza vicino al Polo Sud della Luna, poco esplorato, tra il 23 e il 24 agosto.
