Policlinico "Paolo Giaccone", con un intervento innovativo, eseguito in pochissimi centri italiani, è stato asportato per via transvaginale un tumore benigno all'utero di oltre 10 centimetri di diametro. L'operazione è stata eseguita dal professore Antonio Simone Laganà e dalla sua equipe."La cosa più facile che si sarebbe potuta fare nel caso di un mioma di queste dimensioni - spiega Laganà - sarebbe stato un intervento di chirurgia tradizionale, indicato per gli uteri in cui sono presenti numerosi fibromi di grandi dimensioni. Grazie alla preziosa collaborazione e disponibilità del nostro personale anestesiologico ed infermieristico abbiamo, invece, eseguito tutto l'intervento in laparoscopia e asportato il mioma con una tecnica di estrazione transvaginale in endobag, eseguita in poche strutture a livello nazionale. Questa tecnica permette di eliminare la necessità di ricorrere all'uso del morcellatore, uno strumento chirurgico utilizzato per rimuovere masse di tessuto durante interventi in laparoscopia, con notevole riduzione dei costi e dei rischi chirurgici".L'operazione, fanno sapere dal Policlinico, è perfettamente riuscita e la paziente è stata dimessa dopo pochi giorni."Questo intervento - sottolinea la Direttrice generale del Policlinico, Maria Grazia Furnari - rappresenta un importante traguardo nella nostra missione di fornire cure mediche all'avanguardia e di alta qualità.
