L'8 agosto 1924, con il Regio decreto n. 1338, fufondata la "Regia Università degli Studi Economici e Commercialidi Trieste" dalla quale è poi nato l'Ateneo multidisciplinare dioggi. Il compleanno è stato festeggiato dalla comunità UniTsnella sede centrale di Piazzale Europa con uno spettacolo,condotto dall' attore Davide Calabrese.L'Ateneo, che si ripromette ringiovanire, continuando ainvestire in innovazione e ricerca, per l'occasione ha creatouna capsula del tempo, contenitore sigillato ermeticamente checontiene oggetti simbolici del passato, del presente e delfuturo di UniTs. Una scatola metallica che è stata interrata nelcortile interno del campus di piazzale Europa, sarà riaperta tracinquant'anni dagli "eredi" dell'Ateneo che ne scopriranno ilcontenuto. Nelle vicinanze sono stati anche piantati un ulivo,simbolo di pace e prosperità, e una rosa del Roseto del Parco diSan Giovanni.Un altro seme per il futuro, stavolta recuperato dal passato,è la campana delle lauree, che veniva suonata al conferimentodel titolo: tradizione interrotta da trent'anni e che è statarinnovata dal rettore Roberto Di Lenarda con un nuovo "squillo"grazie al restauro dello strumento, per il Centenario.Infine, il libro d'onore, l'antico volume con firme emessaggi delle grandi personalità che nel tempo hanno visitatol'Università di Trieste, tra le quali Giuseppe Ungaretti, ilDalai Lama, Rita Levi Montalcini, Liliana Segre, Papa GiovanniPaolo II, i Presidenti della Repubblica Sandro Pertini e SergioMattarella, tornato anche lo scorso 12 aprile a firmare il nuovolibro d'onore assieme al già presidente sloveno Borut Pahor,fino all'ultima firma apposta da Papa Francesco.Al termine della celebrazione è stata annunciata anche lariapertura al pubblico della mostra allestita al castello di SanGiusto "1924-2024. Un secolo di storia dell' Università degliStudi di Trieste.
