(askanews) - Piccolo imprevisto per la missione dell'Esa Clearspace-1 che ha lo scopo di validare la tecnologia, ideata dalla start-up svizzera Clearspace, per ripulire l'orbita terrestre da detriti - i cosiddetti Space debris - che potrebbero diventare potenzialmente pericolosi.Il 10 agosto sono stati individuati alcuni frammenti nelle vicinanze del Vespa - l'adattatore del carico utile utilizzato nel 2013 nella seconda missione del lanciatore europeo Vega, di costruzione italiana - obiettivo principale della missione Clearspace-1; un frammento conico di circa 2 metri di diametro e dal peso di 113 Kg che orbita a 660 km d'altezza dalla superficie terrestre. Secondo i tecnici dell'Esa i frammenti potrebbero essere stati causati dalla collisione, ad altissima velocità, di oggetti più piccoli e non tracciati. L'evento, tuttavia, non ha danneggiato il Vespa né alterato la sua orbita e non dovrebbe determinare rischi per la missione che, al memomento, resta confermata con lancio previsto entro il 2026.Il 18esimo Space Defense Squadron degli Stati Uniti che ha individuato e segnalato i frammenti, in ogni caso, tiene la situazione sotto stretto controllo.
