(Adnkronos Salute) - "Il 16 luglio scorso la rete globale di laboratori per la polio ha notificato all'Organizzazione mondiale della sanità e al ministero della Salute dell'autorità palestinese il rilevamento di 6" campioni positivi al "poliovirus derivato da vaccino circolante di tipo 2". Il patogeno è stato isolato "in campioni ambientali" prelevati a Deir al-Balah e in altri punti nella striscia di Gaza. "Riteniamo che vi sia un alto rischio di diffusione del poliovirus derivato da vaccino circolante di tipo 2 a Gaza. Questo non solo a causa del rilevamento" del virus, "ma a causa della situazione molto disastrosa dei servizi igienico-sanitari" e del "mancato funzionamento" di "servizi di assistenza sanitaria di base che forniscono vaccinazioni e altri servizi sanitari materno-infantili" per la popolazione di Gaza. E ciò comporta anche che il rischio di diffondere la malattia in tutta la Striscia di Gaza, e anche altrove" fuori da quest'area "a livello internazionale, è molto elevato". E' il quadro tracciato oggi dall'esperto Oms responsabile del team che si occupa di emergenze nei territori palestinesi occupati, Ayadil Saparbekov. L'esperto ha parlato in videocollegamento durante una conferenza stampa che si è tenuta oggi a Ginevra e ha spiegato che "c'è un sequenziamento genomico effettuato dai Centri statunitensi per il controllo e la prevenzione delle malattie (Cdc) e i risultati che riceviamo da Atlanta suggeriscono un collegamento genetico molto stretto tra i virus isolati nei campioni ambientali in questione e il virus che ha circolato in Egitto nel 2023. L'Oms e i suoi partner dell'iniziativa dedicata alla polio stanno conducendo un'indagine epidemiologica e una valutazione del rischio per identificare la potenziale fonte di questa importazione del virus. E sulla base dei risultati della valutazione, si consolideranno una serie di raccomandazioni tra cui la necessità di una campagna di vaccinazione di massa, nonché il tipo di vaccino da utilizzare e il tipo di vaccino in base alla fascia di età del popolazione che avrà bisogno di essere vaccinata".
