(askanews) - La Lituania rilancia la propria scommessa sulle Scienze della vita e sul biotech e lo fa con l'evento Life Sciences Baltics in corso nella capitale Vilnius. Una due giorni che ha riunito attori istituzionali, ricercatori e molte aziende e che è stata aperta dalla ministra dell'Economia della Lituania, Ausrinè Armonaitè. "Siamo molto felici di organizzare questo evento internazionale sulle Scienze della vita - ha detto ad askanews -; siamo sicuri di avere qualcosa da dare in questo campo ai nostri partner globali. Entro il 2030 la Lituania si è data l'obiettivo di arrivare al 5% del PIL prodotto dalle Life Sciences, siamo consapevoli che è un traguardo molto impegnativo, ma avendo le nostre università, le nostre imprese, la nostra ambizione e i nostri sogni, e anche amici da tutto il mondo, pensiamo che sia un obiettivo raggiungibile".Grazie a una storica vocazione del Paese verso la ricerca, in particolare quella nel settore della biologia, unita anche a un regime di tasse vantaggioso, la Lituania si presenta come un attrattore di investimenti internazionali e l'obiettivo dichiarato è quello di vederli crescere ancora di più. Partendo dai successo delle aziende e delle startup locali che stanno ottenendo riconoscimento in Europa e nel mondo e che portano oggi l'industria delle life sciences a valere il 3% del Pil della Lituania, rispetto a una media europea intorno all'1%. "La ricerca per noi è molto importante - ha aggiunto la ministra dell'Economia - e il nostro obiettivo è di attrarre nelle nostre università sempre più talenti da tutto il mondo". Tra questi, per esempio, Stephen Knox Jones, genetista statunitense che ha portato il proprio laboratorio di ricerca che studia le modifiche al DNA all'università di Vilnius e ha preso parte a Life Sciences Baltics. "Ci concentriamo in particolare sui modi più sicuri ed efficaci - ci ha spiegato il professore - per fare queste modifiche al codice genetico. Nello specifico ci occupiamo di due aspetti: il modo in cui identificare il punto sul quale si deve intervenire e, soprattutto, come garantire che la modifica sia quella che vogliamo fare e non riguardi altri aspetti del genoma". È chiaro, anche da questi temi di ricerca, che le implicazioni sono enormi e riguardano certamente la scienza, ma anche l'etica, oltre che il confronto con il grande business. Temi che sono importanti da ribadire, soprattutto qui, perché si punta molto sulla collaborazione tra università e imprese.Le università della Lituania producono ogni anno tra 5 e 7mila esperti in materie STEM e la domanda di posti di lavoro nei settori tecnologici, del biotech in particolare, è in forte crescita, così come in crescita sono le retribuzioni. "Oggi - ha spiegato Tomas Andrejaukskas, presidente della LithuaniaBIO, Associazione di Biotecnologia del Paese - il settore è molto attrattivo per gli aspetti finanziari e, soprattutto, per le prospettive che offre". Prospettive che riguardano le scienze della vita, ma anche altri ambiti di ricerca, come per esempio l'intelligenza artificiale, tema verso il quale la ministra Armonaitè ha mostrato attenzione "dal punto di vista dell'innovazione. Non si può pensare di gestirlo solo dal punto di vista regolatorio". E anche questo esempio si inserisce alla perfezione nel solco dell'apertura al nuovo che la Lituania rivendica con forza: più innovazione e meno burocrazia, per dirla con uno slogan. "Siamo un Paese piccolo, ma con una storia secolare di popolo di mercanti. Quello che produciamo qui deve essere applicabile su scala globale. Essendo piccoli dobbiamo per forza essere locali, ma dobbiamo pensare in modo globale", ha concluso la ministra dell'Economia.Un passo in questo senso è la volontà di fare di Vilnius un vero e proprio hub delle scienze della vita, unendo e rinforzando tutti gli elementi che già esistono, a partire dalle eccellenze accademiche. Eventi come questa nuova edizione di Life Science Baltics vanno nel senso di promuovere il Paese, potenziare le sinergie e le relazioni, oltre che di dare un quadro dello stato della ricerca. E che tutto ciò avvenga all'interno dell'Unione europea, ma anche a circa 50 km dal confine, piuttosto caldo, con la Bielorussia di Lukashenko è un altro elemento significativo di questa storia.
