(askanews) - Gli astronomi che fanno capo alla collaborazione Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) dopo la prima immagine scattata nel 2022, sono riusciti a fotografare, per la prima volta anche in luce polarizzata, il buco nero supermassiccio al centro della Via Lattea, chiamato Sagittarius A.La straordinaria immagine del "mostro" che fagocita la materia della nostra galassia ha rivelato intensi campi magnetici avvolti a spirale ai margini di Sagittarius A; una struttura del campo magnetico molto simile a quella del buco nero che era stato già fotografato al centro della galassia M87, suggerendo che i campi magnetici intensi siano comuni a tutti i buchi neri. Questa somiglianza suggerisce anche la presenza di un getto nascosto in Sagittarius A.Il buco nero supermassiccio della Via Lattea dista circa 27.000 anni luce dalla Terra ed è oltre mille volte più piccolo e meno massiccio di quello di M87, eppure i campi magnetici dei due buchi neri si comportano in maniera molto simile e quindi, probabilmente, entrambi lanciano potenti getti di materiale nell'ambiente circostante.Arrivare a questo risultato non è stato facile proprio perché Sagittarius A è più piccolo e instabile di M87 e non era facile fotografarlo in luce polarizzata.Per osservarlo, la collaborazione ha collegato otto telescopi sparsi in tutto il mondo per creare un telescopio virtuale delle dimensioni della Terra, l'EHT.
