animaliste decise di istituire la giornata internazionale del gatto. Dal 2020 se ne occupa l'International Cat Care, una ong britannica attiva dal 1958. L'obiettivo e' quello accrescere la sensibilita' delle persone nei confronti dei gatti. La festa del gatto ha le sue date in ogni paese: in Italia e' il 17 febbraio, negli USA il 29 ottobre, in Giappone il 22 febbraio. L'IFAW ha scelto un giorno specifico, l'8 agosto, per celebrare i gatti a livello mondiale. Il mese di agosto non e' stato scelto a caso, poiche' in estate molti umani partono per le vacanze e gli abbandoni tendono a raddoppiare. Adorati dagli antichi Egizi come divinita', oggi i gatti stanno diventando l'animale domestico piu' popolare al mondo.
