Il rientro sulla Terra, invece, è schedulato dopo circa 2 settimane, durante le quali verranno validati i vari sistemi della Starliner affinché la nuova navetta possa finalmente essere certificata per affiancare le Crew Dragon di Space X e le Soyuz russe per trasportare astronauti da e par la base orbitante, dopo il pensionamento degli Space Shuttle, nel 2011. A bordo, per questo primo volo test, due astronauti veterani della Nasa: il comandante, Butch Wilmore e la pilota, Sunita Williams.Il volo inaugurale verso la Iss della Starliner è stato più volte rimandato per ritardi e problemi nello sviluppo della navetta.
