Trump, parlando in conferenza stampa in Florida, ha cercato di mascherare il cedimento rilanciando e proponendo altri due dibattiti Tv: oltre a Fox il 4 settembre anche su Nbc il 25. E, al suo solito ha insultato l'avversaria: "Non ha rilasciato un'intervista. Non può farne, è incompetente"Trump ha anche detto in conferenza stampa che ci sarà "un passaggio delle consegne pacifico" dopo le elezioni, ma ha alimentato i dubbi aggiungendo di sperare "che saranno elezioni oneste". Diversi analisti americani hanno notato che il tycoon sembra ora puntare sui dibattiti, proprio come era accaduto in passato a Biden, per risollevare una campagna che sta perdendo visibilmente spinta e iniziativa. Nel frattempo Kamala Harris si è detta "felice" di poter affrontare l'avversario, riservandogli una stoccata: "Sono felice che alla fine ha accettato il dibattito del 10 settembre, lo attendo con impazienza e ... spero che si presenterà".Buona parte della nuova linfa della campagna di Harris sembra provenire dal suo candidato alla vice-presidenza, il governatore del Minnesota Tim Walz, che per ora si è rivelato una scelta azzeccata. Oltre a dare equilibrio verso il centro a una candidata considerata più di sinistra rispetto a Biden (è bianco e moderato, e viene da uno stato del Northern Midwest), Walz si è rivelato un oratore energetico e capace di entrare in sintonia con i cittadini anche con battute estranee al politically correct tipico dei democratici, contrastando i repubblicani sul loro terreno, senza scendere però troppo in basso: come quando ha coniato quello che è diventato un tormentone anche sui social media, definendo i repubblicani "sballati" e con "idee sballate" ("weird").
