Ma il vero punto di forza del film è l’interpretazione dei due protagonisti, Cécile de France e Vincent Macaigne, nel dare volto e voce al pittore Pierre Bonnard e alla sua amata Marthe de Méligny, la donna che gli è stata accanto per cinquanta anni, e che lui ha ritratto in innumerevoli quadri, spesso come un corpo senza volto, sempre senza età ◆ La recensione di BATTISTA GARDONCINI *► Come ben sanno i visitatori del delizioso museo che la cittadina provenzale di Le Cannet gli ha dedicato, Pierre Bonnard ha tutti i diritti di stare tra i giganti della pittura francese a cavallo tra la fine dell’Ottocento e la prima metà del Novecento. “Ritratto di un amore”, del regista francese Martin Provost, in questi giorni nelle sale italiane, non è soltanto un bel film, ma anche l’occasione per riscoprire il lavoro di questo appartato pittore, meno celebrato di altri, ma di incredibile modernità. L’amore è quello tra Bonnard e Marthe, la donna che gli è stata accanto per cinquanta anni, e che lui ha ritratto in innumerevoli quadri, spesso come un corpo senza volto, sempre senza età. Bonnard ha raccontato Marthe attraverso i momenti più intimi della quotidianità, a volte eterea, a volte carnalmente seducente. E attraverso Marthe ha raccontato la sua visione del mondo.Pierre e Marthe si incontrano a Parigi. Lei è una popolana che lavora in una fabbrica di fiori finti. Lui è un pittore squattrinato che le chiede di posare. Lei si inventa un cognome, de Maligny, che allude a una lontana origine nobile, e rivela la sua vera identità soltanto trent’anni dopo, al momento del matrimonio. Ma la passione che nasce tra i due regge alla prova del tempo, al grave asma di lei, agli sbandamenti di lui, al dramma del suicidio di una una giovane donna che era entrata nelle vite di entrambi, e si era illusa di poterli separare. Anziani, si trasferiscono a Le Cannet, dove Marthe muore nel 1942 e lui la segue cinque anni dopo. Martin Provost ha affrontato con mano delicata, senza mai cadere nel melenso, la storia di un grande amore. È stato bene assecondato dall’ottima  fotografia di Guillaume Schiffman, che ha saputo   le inquadrature e i giochi di luce della pittura francese di quegli anni. Ma il vero punto di forza del film è l’interpretazione dei due protagonisti, Cécile de France e Vincent Macaigne.
