Espressioni d'uso comune che rendono bene l'idea di quanto 'fisico' possa essere un sentimento. Metafore con un fondamento scientifico: le emozioni hanno una "natura 'corporea'", a tal punto che provarle 'accende' il cervello come toccare qualcosa o compiere un movimento. Lo dimostra uno studio dell'università di Milano-Bicocca, pubblicato su 'iScience': "Le emozioni - hanno scoperto gli autori - attivano regioni corticali che tipicamente rispondono a esperienze tattili e motorie". "In passato diversi progetti di ricerca avevano dimostrato a livello comportamentale che le emozioni sono associate a specifiche parti del corpo. Tuttavia, rimaneva da capire quanto specifiche aree cerebrali, tipicamente coinvolte nell'elaborazione di sensazioni tattili e motorie, partecipassero alla generazione di specifiche emozioni quali la tristezza, la felicità, la paura. Noi lo abbiamo dimostrato per la prima volta a livello neurofisiologico", spiega Elena Nava, professoressa del Dipartimento di Psicologia UniMiB, che ha firmato il lavoro insieme ai colleghi Michelle Giraud, Laura Zapparoli, Gianpaolo Basso, Marco Petilli ed Eraldo Paulesu dello stesso dipartimento. Ecco l'esperimento. Gli scienziati hanno utilizzato un macchinario di risonanza magnetica (Rm) funzionale a 3 Tesla - attivo all'ospedale San Gerardo di Monza - su un campione di 26 persone, mappando nel cervello le aree specifiche di risposta neuronale a stimoli di tipo sia motorio e tattile sia emotivo. I filamenti di Von Frey, uno strumento che permette di stimolare parti diverse del corpo con uguale intensità, sono stati usati su mani, tronco, piedi e volto dei partecipanti. Nel primo test - illustra una nota - i componenti del campione sono stati indotti a muovere singolarmente le stesse parti (per esempio aprivano chiudevano le mani, muovevano le labbra e così via). Poi si è proceduto a un recall emotivo: in base ad interviste condotte nei giorni precedenti, ai partecipanti veniva chiesto di rivivere episodi autobiografici per loro altamente emotivi, sia in positivo che in negativo (il giorno del matrimonio, un lutto o altro). Attraverso la Rm funzionale, i ricercatori hanno quindi registrato quale area del cervello venisse attivata da ogni stimolazione - motoria, tattile o emotiva - ricavando due mappe, tattile-motoria ed emotiva. Ebbene, sovrapponendo la mappa delle aree corticali attivate durante la rievocazione delle emozioni alla mappa delle aree corticali attivate durante le stimolazioni tattili e motorie, si è visto che alcune aree si attivano con entrambe le tipologie di stimolazione. "La generazione di emozioni - afferma Nava - si associa ad attività in aree corticali somatosensoriali e motorie, quelle che tipicamente rispondono al tatto o ad azioni motorie.
