Siamo il quarto Paese. Lo si vede anche dai quarti, quinti, sesti posti, se solo un terzo dei quarti posti fosse diventato medaglia avremmo sfondato quota 70. Siamo anche passati dalle 57 finali di Rio alle oltre 80 di Parigi" ha detto Mornati, che è entrato più nel dettaglio sulle medaglie azzurre. "Ci troviamo su quelle che erano state pronosticate. Chi non ce l'ha fatta è per un aspetto ambientale particolare, ci sono poi sport di situazioni in cui ci sono componenti del giudizio che hanno grande incidenza, può succedere tutto e il contrario di tutto. Poi c'è un'esagerazione nel considerare i quarti e i quinti posti come fallimenti, ma ci sono dei ragazzi che hanno perso delle medaglie per millesimi. Ci sono gli atleti più forti del pianeta, come si fa a dire 'sei arrivato solo quartò?. Il nostro motivo di soddisfazione è che le medaglie rispecchiano il sistema organizzativo sportivo in Italia che è orizzontale, che porta avanti tutti. I Paesi anglosassoni hanno un sistema verticale, nel senso che investono in 5-6 discipline, da noi là dove non arriva uno arriva un altro. Il gioco dei colori delle medaglie è più legato al caso. Ci sono poi ragazzi che non hanno confermato l'oro ma la prestazione e chi non ha confermato la prestazione è stato surrogato da altri. Mi fa effetto, mi fa più scalpore che non siamo riusciti a prendere alcune medaglie.
