(Adnkronos Salute) - Che si tratti di Bach, Beethoven o Mozart, è ampiamente riconosciuto che la musica classica può influenzare positivamente l'umore. In uno studio pubblicato sulla rivista 'Cell Reports', un team di scienziati in Cina ha utilizzato misurazioni delle onde cerebrali e tecniche di imaging neurale per mostrare cosa succede nel cervello e come queste opere musicali siano in grado di esercitare i loro effetti benefici sul cervello. Obiettivo: trovare modi più efficaci che permettano di utilizzare la musica per attivare il cervello in chi non risponde, come le persone con depressione resistente ai trattamenti. "Speriamo di tradurre i risultati della nostra ricerca in pratica clinica sviluppando strumenti e applicazioni di musicoterapia convenienti ed efficaci", spiega l'autore senior Bomin Sun, direttore e professore del Center for Functional Neurosurgery alla Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Lo studio si è concentrato su 13 pazienti con depressione resistente che avevano già degli elettrodi impiantati nel cervello per la stimolazione cerebrale profonda. Questi impianti sono posizionati in un circuito che collega due aree del prosencefalo: il nucleo del letto della stria terminale (Bnst) e il nucleus accumbens (Nac). Utilizzando questi impianti, i ricercatori hanno scoperto che la musica genera i suoi effetti antidepressivi sincronizzando le oscillazioni neurali tra la corteccia uditiva, che è responsabile dell'elaborazione delle informazioni sensoriali, e il circuito delle ricompense, che è responsabile dell'elaborazione delle informazioni emotive."Il circuito Bnst-Nac, a volte definito parte dell'amigdala estesa, sottolinea la stretta relazione tra questo circuito e l'amigdala, una struttura centrale nell'elaborazione delle informazioni emotive", afferma Sun. "Questo studio rivela che la musica induce un triplo bloccaggio temporale delle oscillazioni neurali nel circuito corticale-Bnst-Nac tramite sincronizzazione uditiva". I pazienti nello studio sono stati assegnati a due gruppi: basso apprezzamento della musica o alto apprezzamento della musica. Quelli nel gruppo con alto apprezzamento della musica hanno dimostrato una sincronizzazione neurale più significativa e migliori effetti antidepressivi, mentre quelli nel gruppo con basso apprezzamento della musica hanno mostrato risultati peggiori. Raggruppando i pazienti, gli investigatori sono stati in grado di studiare i meccanismi antidepressivi della musica in modo più preciso e proporre piani di musicoterapia personalizzati. Nello studio sono stati utilizzati diversi brani di musica classica occidentale. Questo tipo di musica è stato scelto perché la maggior parte dei partecipanti non aveva familiarità con essa e i ricercatori volevano evitare qualsiasi interferenza che potesse derivare dalla familiarità soggettiva. La futura ricerca del team si concentrerà su diverse aree. "Collaborando con clinici, musicoterapisti, informatici e ingegneri, abbiamo in programma di sviluppare una serie di prodotti di 'digital health' basati sulla musicoterapia, come applicazioni per smartphone e dispositivi indossabili", afferma Sun.
