Oltre alle creme solari per proteggere la pelle nel bagaglio estivo meglio ricordare anche gli strumenti - e le regole - per tutelare gli occhi: dai colliri agli occhiali da sole fino ai controlli di routine, ricorda il medico oculista Pierfilippo Sabella della Eyecare Clinic di Milano che propone un vademecum. La prima regola è la protezione dai raggi Uv. Gli "occhiali da sono sole indispensabili. Vanno sempre indossati e devono avere lenti certificate che bloccano i raggi Uva e Uvb, anche sotto l'ombrellone e in giornate nuvolose. I raggi Uv possono danneggiare la retina anche in condizioni di luce apparentemente tenue". Ma non è solo questione di 'buone lenti'. Anche la forma conta. E' importante scegliere la montatura giusta che sia "avvolgente in grado di proteggere gli occhi anche dai raggi laterali, riducendo l'evaporazione del film lacrimale". Gli 'occhiali' servono anche in acqua. "Durante il nuoto in mare o piscina è sempre bene utilizzare occhialini o maschera per proteggere gli occhi da cloro, salsedine, sabbia e altri agenti irritanti". Mentre vanno tolte"le lenti a contatto che in acqua aumentano il rischio di infezioni. Prediligere gli occhiali da vista o utilizzare lenti a contatto monouso da gettare dopo ogni bagno", aggiunge Sabella. La protezione degli occhi passa anche da un'adeguata idratazione. E' importante "utilizzare colliri o lacrime artificiali per mantenere gli occhi idratati, soprattutto in ambienti secchi, ventosi o con aria condizionata, che possono causare secchezza oculare, affaticamento e irritazione. Serve poi bere molta acqua perché idratare tutto il corpo aiuta anche a mantenere la salute degli occhi, prevenendo la secchezza e la formazione di fastidiose 'mosche volanti'". Inoltre va limitata l'esposizione al sole diretta. "In particolare mai fissare direttamente il sole, tanto più per periodi prolungati. Il riposo è fondamentale anche per gli occhi: fare spesso pause dalle attività che richiedono un forte sforzo visivo, come leggere o utilizzare dispositivi elettronici". Anche l'alimentazione conta. "Utile consumare cibi ricchi di vitamine e antiossidanti, come frutta e verdura, che possono aiutare a proteggere gli occhi dai danni indotti dai radicali liberi".Infine è di grande importanza "sottoporsi a visite oculistiche periodiche per monitorare la salute degli occhi e individuare precocemente eventuali problemi.
