(askanews) - L'Italia dello Spazio risolve un possibile mistero, dopo decenni d'attesa, per spiegare come mai la corona solare è più calda della superficie.Il team di missione della sonda ESA-NASA Solar Orbiter, con un'accurata sequenza di manovre per una correzione d'assetto di circa 45 gradi (grazie ai sensori Made in Italy prodotti da Leonardo), è riuscito a sfruttare il supporto di un'altra sonda, il Parker Solar Probe e, per la prima volta in assoluto, ha potuto effettuare misure simultanee - da due diversi veicoli spaziali - della corona solare e delle sue proprietà.La corona solare, infatti, è costituita da gas incandescente, il plasma, con una temperatura di circa un milione di gradi Celsius. Un mistero per gli scienziati perché la superficie del Sole è di "appena" 6.000 gradi. La corona dovrebbe essere più fredda della superficie, invece è 150 volte più calda.Ma ora c'è la possibile prova scientifica che conferma i sospetti di sempre.I risultati dello studio, pubblicati sulla rivista The Astrophysical Journal Letters e ottenuti dal team internazionale guidato dall'INAF, l'Istituto nazionale di astrofisica, a cui partecipano anche ricercatori dell'Università di Firenze, dell'Agenzia Spaziale Italiana e del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche, indicano, infatti che sarebbero i fenomeni di turbolenza i principali responsabili del riscaldamento della corona solare fino a quelle temperature.Le osservazioni del coronografo Metis, realizzato per Inaf e Agenzia Spaziale Italiana da Thales Alenia Space e OHB Italia, hanno permesso di verificare come la turbolenza nell'atmosfera solare può effettivamente provocare un riscaldamento significativo del plasma nella corona. Con i movimenti del plasma, l'energia viene trasferita su scale sempre più piccole, arrivando a trasformarsi in calore.
