Soprattutto in vista delle prossime missioni lunari Artemis con le quali l'umanità, più di 50 anni dopo le missioni Apollo, tornerà sulla Luna, questa volta per viverci e lavorarci, costruendo una base permanente da cui organizzare i futuri viaggi verso Marte e altri corpi celesti del sistema solare.Proprio per questo, nei giorni scorsi, la Casa Bianca ha dato mandato alla Nasa di creare, entro la fine del 2026, un sistema di Tempo Lunare Coordinato (LTC); una sorta di orario standardizzato a cui gli astronauti potranno fare riferimento per organizzare le loro giornate di lavoro e migliorare la precisione del sistema di navigazione LunaNet, durante le missioni cislunari della stazione Gateway e la loro permanenza sul suolo lunare, affrancandosi, per così dire, dal tempo terrestre (UTC). La minore gravità lunare, infatti, incide anche sul tempo che scorre leggerissimamente più veloce; circa 58,7 microsecondi per ogni giorno terrestre. Trascurabile per missioni brevi ma, a lungo andare, potrebbe rappresentare un problema, soprattutto per la precisione dei sistemi di navigazione.
