(askanews) - Un progetto che ha restituito alla biodiversità dell'Italia una specie che era considerata estinta in natura, la starna italica (Perdix perdix italica): è il LIFE-Perdix che dal 2019 ha reintrodotto migliaia di esemplari nella Valle del Mezzano in provincia di Ferrara. Il tutto grazie a un modello di allevamento specializzato che non ha pari in Europa, realizzato nel centro faunistico di Bieri, sui monti della Garfagnana, che fa capo ai Carabinieri del Comando unità forestali, ambientali e agroalimentari, con il partenariato di Legambiente, il contributo dello strumento finanziario LIFE dell'Ue e il patrocinio scientifico dell'Istituto Superiore per la Protezione Ambientale (Ispra).Ma come si è arrivati a recuperare una specie che in natura era ormai scomparsa? Grazie a un complesso lavoro di analisi e selezione genetica, come spiega Antonino Morabito, Responsabile nazionale fauna e benessere animale di Legambiente: "Dall'analisi del patrimonio genetico presente nei reperti museali di starne prima degli anni '50 e dall'analisi degli animali negli allevamenti del Centro-nord Italia, siamo riusciti a individuare e fare la fotografia di quello che è il patrimonio genetico della starna italica". A questo punto è cominciato il lavoro sul campo, con un processo che mirava a selezionare gli esemplari con patrimonio genetico "più italico" con allevamenti specializzati in batteria e incubazione delle uova con tecnologia e macchinari che mirano a garantire condizioni ottimali, anche se artificiali: una delle schiuse di quest'anno è arrivata proprio alla vigilia della Giornata mondiale della Biodiversità, come si vede in queste immagini. Ma grazie alla maestria del personale tecnico guidato da Franco Bertoncini, il progetto del Centro faunistico di Bieri è andato anche oltre le previsioni iniziali, riuscendo a far riprodurre a terra molte coppie e consentendo la cova naturale delle uova: per farlo sono state costruite piccole voliere adatte alla riproduzione a terra delle nuove starne italiche.A fine 2024 il progetto LIFE-Perdix avrà reintrodotto in natura oltre 30.000 esemplari, ma l'attività del Centro faunistico di Bieri per la biodiversità continuerà, con potenziali nuovi progetti di reintroduzione in natura delle starne italiche, ed eventualmente anche di altre specie, come spiega il maresciallo Stefano Santini, comandante della stazione dei carabinieri forestali: "Analogamente vorremmo poter procedere alla reimmissione e ricostituzione di popolazioni in difficoltà da un punto di vista numerico sul territorio nazionale: mi riferisco specialmente ad altri animali che possono essere stati nel passato oggetto di caccia come la pernice, come la coturnice ed eventualmente anche di altre specie che l'Ispra indicherà come doverosi d'attenzione scientifica". di Askanews   22-05-2024 - 20:18 Link copiato Commenti Leggi la Netiquette
