(askanews) - Si chiama TOI-715 b ed è un nuovo esopianeta probabilmente roccioso, con caratteristiche molto simili alla Terra, scoperto nel 2023 dal telescopio spaziale TESS (Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite) della NASA. È una vera e propria Super-Terra, grande circa una volta e mezza il nostro pianeta e tre volte più massiccia e, soprattutto, si trova nella cosiddetta "fascia abitabile" cioé quella regione orbitale alla giusta distanza da una stella in cui possono esserci caratteristiche compatibili con lo sviluppo della vita.La stella in questione è TOI-715, una nana rossa di circa 6. 6 miliardi di anni, situata a 137 anni luce da noi, nella costellazione del Pesce Volante. Essendo molto più piccola e fredda del Sole, ha una zona abitabile molto più vicina. In effetti TOI-715 b orbita a poco più di 12 milioni di chilometri dalla stella, circa 13 volte meno della distanza Terra-Sole e ha un periodo orbitale molto più breve del nostro pianeta; in pratica un anno dura circa 19 giorni terrestri. Però, con un flusso di insolazione pari a 0,62 volte quello che la Terra riceve dal Sole, presenta condizioni di luce e calore tali da poter, potenzialmente, sostenere la vita.La scoperta è stata fatta grazie al cosiddetto metodo dei transiti. Ogni volta che un pianeta passa davanti alla sua stella ne oscura la luce e questo ci consente non solo di individuarlo ma anche di studiarne le caratteristiche, per esempio la presenza di un'atmosfera e dei gas che la costituiscono e che potrebbero essere studiate dal James Webb Telescope, creato apposta per approfondire questo tipo di ricerche.Autore dello studio un team di scienziati guidato dall'Università di Birmingham, nel Regno Unito, del quale fanno parte anche 3 ricercatori italiani.Una curiosità, gli scienziati avrebbero individuato da quelle parti anche un secondo possibile esopianeta con un raggio simile a quello della Terra ma le verifiche sono ancora in corso. di Askanews   08-02-2024 - 18:39 Link copiato Commenti Leggi la Netiquette
