(askanews) - L'astronauta italiana dell'Agenzia spaziale europea (Esa), Samantha Cristoforetti martedì 10 ottobre 2023 ha ricevuto dalle mani della rettrice della Sapienza Università di Roma Antonella Polimeni, il dottorato di ricerca honoris causa in Ingegneria aeronautica e spaziale, nel corso della cerimonia d'inaugurazione dell'anno accademico 2023-2024, 721° dalla fondazione.Samantha Cristoforetti ha completato la sua prima missione di lunga durata, "Futura" sulla Stazione spaziale internazionale tra il 2014 e il 2015 ed è tornata nello Spazio, con una navetta Crew Dragon di SpaceX, per la sua seconda missione, "Minerva" nel 2022, nel corso della quale ha effettuato anche una missione extraveicolare ed è stata la prima donna europea comandante dell'ISS.Il comandante Cristoforetti - ha spiegato Sergio Pirozzoli, Coordinatore del Dottorato di ricerca in Ingegneria aeronautica e spaziale nel motivare il conferimento del dottorato, "con le sue attività in orbita non solo ha aperto nuove frontiere per l'esplorazione spaziale ponendo anche le condizioni per il miglioramento delle condizioni di vita sul pianeta ma ha lavorato anche per promuovere l'uguaglianza di genere".
