(Adnkronos Salute) - "Nonostante gli sforzi messi in atto dall’amministrazione francese e dal Comitato olimpico per rendere balneabile la Senna e permettere le gare in acque aperte, i rischi sanitari per gli atleti delle Olimpiadi 2024 legati all’inquinamento del fiume non possono essere completamente eliminati". Lo afferma la Società italiana di medicina ambientale (Sima), intervenendo sul caso dell’atleta Claire Michel, 35 anni, che secondo il Comitato olimpico belga si è ammalata dopo il tuffo nella Senna mercoledì scorso. “La presenza nelle acque dei fiumi di batteri fecali, come ad esempio l’Escherichia coli, può provocare infezioni gastrointestinali nell’uomo con sintomi come diarrea e vomito – spiega il presidente Sima, Alessandro Miani – Si possono verificare poi infezioni della pelle e degli occhi per via del contatto con l’acqua contaminata, con conseguenti eruzioni cutanee e infezioni oculari. Altro rischio importante è la leptospirosi, malattia causata da batteri presenti nell’urina degli animali come ratti e topi: i sintomi includono febbre alta, mal di testa e dolori muscolari.
