Racconta la storia di un giovane professore di borgata che interroga i suoi studenti su due emozioni: amore e paura. Parole chiave che serviranno e decodificare le relazioni sentimentali del rapporto tra il docente e la più brillante delle sue studentesse: lui si invaghisce di lei, ma ne scaturirà una relazione passionale solo dopo la maturità della ragazza. E l’insicurezza? Viviamo forse nel perenne tormento di sentirci degli impostori? Un anziano Pietro Vella (Elio Germano) è in procinto di buttarsi dalla finestra, sollecitato dalla sua ex amante Teresa (Federica Rosellini), ossessionato dall’oscura paura di un segreto che lo tormenta e potrebbe costargli la reputazione. Uscito il 24 aprile al cinema, e tratto dall’omonimo romanzo di Domenico Starnone, Confidenza è il film che non ti aspetti. Francesco Piccolo e Daniele Luchetti firmano la sceneggiatura di un’opera che parla di un piccolo borghese ossessionato dalla sua immagine pubblica e che, pur di preservarla, sfiora il suicidio, e questo Luchetti ci tiene a farlo risaltare sin dai primi fotogrammi. Muovendosi costantemente tra passato e presente, delinea il profilo del protagonista, o meglio, il caso clinico di un uomo sull’orlo di una crisi di nervi.Negli anni ’80, un giovane Pietro Vella, professore di Lettere fuori dall’ordinario, interroga i suoi studenti su due emozioni: amore e paura. Parole chiave che serviranno e decodificare le relazioni sentimentali dell’intera vicenda, poiché – come enunciato nel film – «l’amore non è mai alla pari: è sempre sopraffazione». Un viso androgino, con una maturità celata nel volto da ragazza, quello di Teresa, la più brillante delle sue studentesse, che non a caso ricorda il primo piano di Mariel Hemingway in Manhattan di Woody Allen. Nel film del regista americano, la ragazza sembra capire molto di più del narcisista Isaac interpretato dallo stesso Allen. Così come Pietro, amato professore di liceo che prova un sincero affetto per i suoi studenti, nasconde nella sua umiltà un’ambiguità che Teresa intravede. La natura della loro relazione, sin dal suo nascere, ci viene presentata come problematica: lui si invaghisce di lei, ma ne scaturirà una relazione passionale solo dopo la maturità della ragazza. Relazione tempestosa che i due testano confessandosi il loro segreto più intimo e proibito, che possa così unirli per sempre.  Il legame però si spezza, forse proprio per il peso incontenibile di quel segreto svelato da Pietro. La vita del professore di borgata va avanti, sposa Nadia (Vittoria Puccini), tiepida insegnante di matematica nel suo stesso liceo, più tranquilla e contenibile dell’irruente Teresa. Elogiato e stimato, la sua carriera ha un’inaspettata svolta, ma la scalata verso una dignità professionale è minacciata dalla figura di Teresa, che ricompare come un fantasma nella vita dell’uomo, diventando l’ombra della sua angoscia. Un segreto allegorico, manifestazione di un tormento interiore, che Luchetti indaga, esplorando le sordide ambivalenze delle relazioni amorose, ree di oscillare in una linea sottile perennemente minacciata dal baratro. Il regista romano è abile nel mantenere su quel filo lo spettatore: non gli confeziona risposte e soluzioni, ma lo trascina in un vortice di irrequietezza e tormento. Risultato ottenuto grazie all’interpretazione di Elio Germano – recentemente vincitore del David di Donatello 2024 come miglior attore non protagonista per Palazzina Laf – talento nostrano indiscusso che ha saputo cogliere le varie sfaccettature di un personaggio detestabile, ma che ammalia con un fascino ipnotico. L’inadeguatezza e l’ambizione di Pietro sono forse le nostre stesse inadeguatezze e ambizioni, e le meravigliose musiche di Thom Yorke ci invitano ad una danza con i nostri fantasmi.
