E' quanto afferma il Presidente della Repubblica, Sergio Mattarella, in una dichiarazione in occasione dell'anniversario della strage di Bologna."I morti, le immagini della Stazione di Bologna devastata, l'attacco feroce alla convivenza degli italiani, hanno impresso un segno indelebile, il 2 agosto 1980, nella identità della Repubblica e nella coscienza del popolo italiano - prosegue il capo dello Stato -. La memoria non è soltanto un dovere ma è l'espressione consapevole di quella cittadinanza espressa nei valori costituzionali che la violenza terroristica voleva colpire e abbattere.
