(askanews) - La Nasa ha confermato gli investimenti previsti per la missione Dragonfly ed è pronta quindi a esplorare Titano, il più grande satellite naturale del pianeta Saturno e uno dei corpi celesti più interessanti del Sistema solare.Dragonfly è un piccolo drone, simile a un quadricottero che volerà nella densa atmosfera della luna di Saturno atterrando in diversi siti dove, con i propri strumenti, analizzerà il terreno, costituito principalmente da ghiaccio d'acqua e il sottosuolo, alla ricerca di possibili tracce degli elementi chiave della vita. Gli scienziati, infatti, considerano Titano simile alla terra primordiale per cui, nei suoi laghi di metano liquido o nella sua atmosfera costituita principalmente da azoto - queste sono immagini reali girate dalla sonda Huygens nel 2005 -potrebbero esserci numerosi elementi da cui, in presenza di determinate condizioni e processi chimici, potrebbe nascere la vita. Questo rende Titano anche un potenziale "pianeta B" dove, in un futuro remoto, il genere umano potrebbe trovare casa.La Nasa ha stabilito anche tempi relativamente veloci per la missione che ha un budget di 3,35 miliardi di dollari, con il lancio previsto entro il 2028, e l'arrivo su Titano del drone entro il 2034.
