"Pierre Agostini,Ferenc Krausz e Anne L'Huillier hanno dimostrato un modo per creare impulsi di luce estremamente brevi che possono essere utilizzati per misurare i rapidi processi in cui gli elettroni si muovono o cambiano energia".Gli esperimenti dei vincitori, iniziati alla fine degli anni '80, hanno prodotto impulsi di luce così brevi da essere misurati in attosecondi - un attosecondo corrisponde a un trilionesimo di secondo - permettendo di studiare processi così rapidi che prima era impossibile seguire: nell'elettronica, per esempio, è importante capire e controllare il comportamento degli elettroni in un materiale.
