Uno di quattro terroristi dell’Ira rifugiati nel Donegal finisce nel mirino di Liam Neeson mandando all’aria il mondo quasi bucolico degli anni Settanta dove covano risentimenti e rabbia che alimentano la violenza al servizio di una causa considerata superiore ◆ La recensione di BATTISTA GARDONCINI *► Nella sterminata filmografia dell’attore irlandese Liam Neeson – tanti film d’azione, molti drammi e anche qualche commedia – compaiono spesso pellicole mediocri, dove la sua raffinata recitazione e la sua imponente presenza scenica vanno sprecate in trame scadenti e sciatterie di ogni genere. È vero: non tutti i registi sono come Spielberg, che lo ha magistralmente diretto in “Schindler’s List”.  Ma è anche vero che una star come lui potrebbe essere un po’ più selettiva nelle scelte.Fortunatamente non è questo il caso de “L’ultima vendetta”, del regista americano Robert Lorenz. Dimenticate il titolo imposto dai distributori italiani, che potrebbe far pensare al solito action movie. Le sparatorie non mancano, ma non sono la parte prevalente di una storia ambientata nell’Irlanda degli anni Settanta, sconvolta dalla guerra civile. Una terra, come dice il titolo originale del film (“In the Land of Saints and Sinners”), di santi e di peccatori, dove tutti sembrano avere i loro motivi per agire come agiscono. Neeson, un ex-soldato rimasto vedovo, è un killer su commissione disgustato da quello che fa. Vive in una  piccola cittadina del Donegal dove si rifugiano quattro terroristi dell’Ira autori di un sanguinoso attentato, e ne uccide uno colpevole di avere selvaggiamente picchiato la figlia di una sua amica. Gli altri cercano di vendicarsi, ma soltanto all’ultimo momento si rendono conto del calibro dell’avversario.Lorenz, che aveva già diretto Neeson nel 2021 nel pirotecnico “Un uomo sopra la legge”, ha scelto di non calcare la mano e indulge nel descrivere la placida vita del villaggio, il pub con le sue canzoni, il rito del tè tra vicini di casa, le partite  di pallone che raccolgono tutti gli abitanti attorno al campo. Ma in questo mondo quasi bucolico covano i risentimenti e la rabbia, che alimentano la  violenza al servizio di una causa considerata superiore.
