Palermo in seguito a un incidente stradale avvenuto a Mazara del Vallo nel quale aveva riportato l'amputazione del braccio sinistro. L'intervento di reimpianto dell'arto, eseguito dagli specialisti della Chirurgia Plastica e Ricostruttiva dell'Azienda Ospedaliero Universitaria Policlinico "Paolo Giaccone", è perfettamente riuscito e il paziente sta bene."Questo intervento è un esempio di ottima collaborazione che vede consolidata la posizione di primo piano del Policlinico 'Paolo Giaccone' nell'ambito della traumatologia, in particolare come centro reimpianti, in Sicilia e nell'Italia meridionale - afferma la professoressa Adriana Cordova, direttrice dell'unità operativa complessa di Chirurgia Plastica e Ricostruttiva e del Dipartimento chirurgico dell'Azienda ospedaliera universitaria -. Il percorso di riabilitazione della funzione del braccio in questo caso prevede altri delicati interventi chirurgici che la nostra equipe sta già programmando per garantire all'arto reimpiantato una buona funzionalità".Fondamentale per la riuscita di una procedura così complessa è stato il tempestivo coordinamento tra l'ospedale "Abele Ajello" di Mazara del Vallo, nel Trapanese, il primo ad accogliere il paziente e a prestare le prime cure, e il reparto del Policlinico cui afferisce l'unità operativa semplice di Chirurgia della mano e Microchirurgia d'Urgenza, che dal 2019 è centro CUMI (Centro di coordinamento per le urgenze ed emergenze della mano e dell'arto superiore,) e accoglie pazienti provenienti dalla Sicilia e dal sud Italia. "In questo caso - sottolinea la professoressa Cordova - è stato determinante il ruolo dei medici di Mazara del Vallo che hanno inviato in modo corretto l'arto amputato. La conservazione e il trasporto del pezzo anatomico amputato nel tempo più rapido possibile sono, infatti, momenti fondamentali per la buona riuscita del reimpianto".L'intervento, durato circa otto ore, è consistito nella osteosintesi dell'omero e nella rivascolarizzazione dei tessuti mediante la anastomosi (ossia il ricollegamento) microscopica delle arterie e delle vene, nonché nella ricostruzione dei nervi che risultavano strappati a più livelli.L'operazione ha visto impegnata un'equipe multidisciplinare costituita dai chirurghi plastici Pierfrancesco Pugliese e Massimiliano Tripoli, responsabile dell'unità operativa semplice di Microchirurgia e Chirurgia della mano, gli assistenti in formazione Federico Coppola ed Emanuele Gervasi, il Professore Lawrence Camarda, direttore dell'unità operativa complessa di Ortopedia e il collega Gian Piero De Luca, l'anestesista Fabio Failla.Dopo il lungo intervento il paziente è stato trasferito presso il reparto di Terapia Intensiva Polivalente del Policlinico, ove è stato stabilizzato e monitorato nelle funzioni vitali, e poi ritrasferito in reparto dove è anche assistito dal punto di vista psicologico."Questo tipo di intervento, che richiede una sincronizzazione perfetta e un'abilità chirurgica fuori dal comune, - afferma la Direttrice generale del Policlinico, Maria Grazia Furnari - è un esempio del nostro impegno costante verso l'eccellenza nelle cure mediche.
