L'esposizione prenatale a temperature eccessive è "associata a maggiori rischi di parto pretermine, basso peso alla nascita e natimortalità". Le ondate di calore, ormai sempre più frequenti, sono collegate a un aumento del tasso di nascite premature, anche secondo un recente studio americano che ha analizzato 53 milioni di nascite nelle 50 aree metropolitane più popolose degli Stati Uniti dal 1993 al 2017. Le donne - prosegue l'Eshre - hanno maggiori probabilità di soffrire di ipertensione, di esiti peggiori della gravidanza e degenze ospedaliere più lunghe. Non solo. L'esposizione del feto al calore eccessivo potrebbe causare effetti negativi a lungo termine, ad esempio sulle capacità cognitive. Infine, i tassi di natalità mostrano un'associazione significativa con le temperature estreme. "E' tempo di agire", affermano gli esperti, riuniti a congresso ad Amsterdam, sollecitando "politiche per affrontare gli effetti del cambiamento climatico sulla salute riproduttiva: dare priorità alla ricerca sugli impatti dell'inquinamento atmosferico e dell'esposizione al calore sulla fertilità e gravidanza per guidare lo sviluppo di misure protettive; promuovere azioni rapide, etiche e durature per ridurre le emissioni di Co2 e l'inquinamento atmosferico con l'obiettivo di raggiungere zero emissioni nette di Co2 entro i prossimi 20 anni; realizzare politiche ambiziose e investimenti economici per ottenere sostanziali riduzioni delle emissioni di Co2, migliorare la qualità dell'aria e stabilizzare l'aumento delle temperature globali entro 1,5 gradi C". di Adnkronos   09-07-2024 - 19:08 Link copiato Commenti Leggi la Netiquette
