molti anziani continuano a usare l’aspirina per la prevenzione primaria delle malattie cardiovascolari. A rivelarlo è uno studio condotto da un gruppo di ricercatori della Cleveland Clinic che ha analizzato i dati forniti dalla National Health Interview Survey Sample Adult raccolti tra il 2012 e il 2019 e anche quelli relativi al 2021. Secondo gli esperti, ogni anno, 150 milioni di adulti utilizzano l’aspirina per la prevenzione delle malattie cardiovascolari (CVD). Ai partecipanti allo studio, di età pari o superiore a 40 anni, è stato chiesto di segnalare l’uso di aspirina e sono stati stratificati per fascia di età e stato di malattie cardiovascolari in base alla storia auto-riferita di ictus, infarto miocardico, malattia coronarica o angina. Dai risultati dello studio, pubblicato sulle pagine dell’Annals of Internal Medicine, si evince la necessità che i medici forniscano ai propri pazienti informazioni sull’uso dell’aspirina, evidenziandone i potenziali benefici e rischi negli anziani. I dati hanno mostrato che l’uso dell’aspirina è diminuito dal 2018 al 2019 dopo che nuove prove hanno spinto l’American College of Cardiology e l’American Heart Association a sconsigliarne l’uso per la prevenzione primaria di specifiche patologie tra gli anziani.Tuttavia, anche dopo questo calo, quasi un terzo degli adulti di età pari o superiore a 60 anni (benché non a rischio CVD) continuava a usare l’aspirina nel 2021: quasi 1 su 20 inoltre ne faceva un uso senza aver interpellato preventivamente il proprio medico. Nel complesso, 25,6 milioni di adulti hanno segnalato l’uso di aspirina negli Stati Uniti, con 18,5 milioni di adulti di età pari o superiore a 60 anni che hanno usato l’aspirina nel 2021.
