(askanews) - Preoccupano l'Inghilterra le immagini di centinaia di persone che venerdì hanno assalito il centro della città di Sunderland nel nord est del paese, ultima di una serie di proteste di estrema destra che fanno seguito a una campagna di disinformazione contro la comunità islamica, dopo l'uccisione di tre bambine accoltellate a Southport, vicino a Liverpool.Dieci persone sono state arrestate a Sunderland ma la polizia si aspetta altri scontri nella notte di sabato."Le scene che abbiamo visto a Sunderland sono sconvolgenti, inaccettabili" ha detto il sovrintendente di polizia Mark Hall. "I nostri agenti si sono trovati a affrontare gravi livelli di violenza. Non era una protesta, era una devastazione". Lunedì scorso a Southport un ragazzo di origine ruandese ma nato e cresciuto in Galles ha ucciso tre bambine. Non è trattato come un caso di terrorismo, però notizie false propagate sui social dagli ambienti di estrema destra hanno descritto il diciassettenne come un migrante musulmano illegale lasciato libero di agire dalle forze dell'ordine. Falso nome, falsa descrizione, allarmi inventati di sana pianta, ma in molti ci hanno creduto e a Southport è stata anche attaccata una moschea.Il premier britannico laburista Keir Starmer ha chiesto ai social media di agire per bloccare le fake news e l'odio fomentato online, promettendo nuove misure contro le persone animatrici delle proteste già note alle forze dell'ordine.Intanto nella vicina Liverpool dove si teme l'attacco a una moschea locale, gli abitanti si sono riuniti per sostenere la comunità islamica."Non voglio vedere fascisti in strada per questo sono qui" dice per esempio Karen. "È terribile quello che è successo a Southport, ma vengono qui per strumentalizzarlo, uccidere e bruciare una moschea, non sono i benvenuti"."Sono qui in solidarietà con un'altra comunità, con i miei vicini" dice Daniel.
