(askanews) - Nasa e Lockeed Martin Skunk Works, la divisione dell'azienda aerospaziale dedicata ai velivoli sperimentali, si apprestano a effettuare i primi voli del nuovo jet supersonico "silenzioso" X-59, banco di prova del velivolo del futuro aereo che potrebbe sostituire il celebre Concorde nei cieli di tutto il mondo.L'intento è dare un nuovo impulso al settore del trasporto aereo commerciale, facendo tornare un velivolo di linea supersonico al servizio dei passeggeri più esigenti ma con con un obiettivo ulteriore: ridurre il rumore del caratteristico boom sonico grazie all'avveniristico design dell'aereo, nonostante la velocità di 1,4 volte la velocità del suono, più o meno 1. 500 km all'ora.La particolarità dell'X-59, infatti, è la sua fusoliera allungata, con un muso sottile a appuntito, capace di rompere le onde d'urto generate dal volo supersonico e, di conseguenza, abbassare la soglia del rumore prodotto.Questo consentirebbe di far volare il jet anche sopra aree abitate, aumentando l'offerta di possibili collegamenti rapidi e riducendo i disagi per gli abitanti delle aree sorvolate.Altre caratteristiche dell'X-59, sono il motore esterno carenato, in posizione sopraelevata e la cabina di pilotaggio completamente affogata nella fusoliera, senza finestrini e parabrezza, sempre per una maggiore aerodinamicità della struttura.
