Lo ha identificato l'agenzia internazionale di ranking scientifico Alper-Doger (Ad), che classifica le analisi in base alla performance scientifica e al valore aggiunto della produttività scientifica dei singoli scienziati, racchiuso in un indice, l'Ad Scientific Index (Alper-Doger Scientific Index). Questo nuovo indice - si legge in una nota - è stato sviluppato nel 2021 dai professori Alper e Doger utilizzando i valori totali e degli ultimi 6 anni di indicatori bibliometrici quali l'indice di hirsch (H-index), l'indice i10 e le citazioni in Google Scholar. In sintesi, utilizzando un totale di 9 parametri, l'Ad Scientific Index mostra la classifica dei migliori scienziati in 12 materie (inclusa la medicina) e in 256 campi, nel mondo. Nato a Pescara, ma romano d'adozione, il professor Gentile - riconfermato lo scorso ottobre per la terza volta consecutiva nella classifica 'Top Scientists- World's Top 2%', ranking dei migliori scienziati al mondo, pubblicata dalla Stanford University, e già al vertice, nel 2022, della classifica europea 'Expertscape' per l'uso del lipofilling e delle Cellule vasculo stromali - è risultato al vertice della classifica mondiale 'Ad Scientific Index - World Scientists Rankings 2024', relativa a un settore specifico e innovativo della Chirurgia plastica: la Chirurgia plastica rigenerativa (Regenerative Plastic Surgery). L'analisi degli indicatori bibliometrici ha consentito di valutare le attività di ricerca e il relativo impatto scientifico nella comunità internazionale, identificando le eccellenze nelle varie discipline e nei relativi campi. Gentile, con un H-index = 51 sec. Scopus (H-Index = 56 sec. Scholar, con i10-index =113), raggiunge il gradino più alto del podio nella valutazione. Gli studi sulla Chirurgia plastica rigenerativa condotti dal professore permettono all'Italia di raggiungere l'apice di classifiche e ranking scientifici internazionali nel panorama della ricerca a livello globale in un settore sanitario emergente, quello della Chirurgia plastica rigenerativa, che grazie all'impiego del grasso autologo, cioè delle sue cellule, del plasma ricco di piastrine e di nuove biotecnologie, offre un notevole impatto sociale, stimolando la rigenerazione dei tessuti danneggiati ripristinandone i volumi e profili (si pensi alle ulcere, al piede diabetico, alle cicatrici, agli esiti di ustione, alle malformazioni mammarie e del volto, agli esiti di ricostruzione mammaria, solo per citarne alcuni), migliorando la qualità di vita delle persone.
