si preannuncia come l'evento astronomico dell'anno. Il fenomeno non sarà visibile dall'Italia, ma soltanto dal Nord e Centro America, dal Messico al Canada. Lo spettacolo inizierà quando da noi saranno le ore 17:42 e si concluderà alle 22:52. La massima durata della fase di totalità sfiorerà i 4 minuti e mezzo.Come vederla dall'Italia Dall'Italia, come detto, non sarà visibile. Ma potremo comunque seguire l'evento in diretta streaming.  L'Inaf farà una diretta insieme a TimeAndDate a partire dalle 19.00 su YouTube. Il sito del Virtual Telescope Project inizierà la sua diretta alle 17.00 qui. E c'è poi naturalmente  l'evento sul sito della Nasa.Una corona solare d'eccezionePer l’occasione il Sole indosserà una 'corona' d'eccezione "potrà essere 5-6 volte più grande del diametro della stessa stella, a causa della concomitanza col periodo di massima attività solare", come dice Roberto Ragazzoni, docente di astrofisica all'Università di Padova e neo presidente dell'Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica. La corona, solitamente nascosta dal bagliore della stella, rappresenta uno dei più grandi misteri irrisolti dell'astronomia. E' costituita da un gas elettricamente carico (il cosiddetto plasma) che si estende per milioni di chilometri e che nonostante ciò è centinaia di volte più caldo della superficie solare, con una temperatura che supera il milione di gradi. Resta dunque da capire quali meccanismi determinino il trasferimento di energia al plasma. La corona solare sarà il principale argomento di studio del team di Lucia Abbo dell'Inaf di Torino, che documenterà l'eclissi dal Messico grazie a tre diversi telescopi per effettuare misure (alcune mai fatte prima) delle strutture coronali e del loro campo magnetico.I ricercatori Inaf vanno in AmericaTelescopi e fotocamere metteranno a fuoco i loro obiettivi soprattutto per studiare in dettaglio la parte più esterna dell'atmosfera solare, la corona, che in questa occasione sarà visibile proprio in concomitanza con il massimo solare, cioè il periodo di massima attività del Sole che si presenta ogni 11 anni. Quella di oggi sarà un'occasione d'oro per appassionati e ricercatori, come quelli dell'Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica che si preparano a volare oltreoceano per 'paparazzare' la nostra stella e le sfuggenti 'ombre volanti' prodotte dall'atmosfera terrestre durante l'eclissi, ma non solo: proveranno anche a fare un 'ritratto di famiglia' del Sistema solare e a immortalare gli asteroidi vulcanoidi, finora previsti in linea teorica ma mai osservati.Dove vedere l’eclissi Quella di oggi potrebbe mostrarci la nostra stella in una veste alquanto familiare. Secondo Ryan French, fisico solare del National Solar Observatory a Boulder in Colorado, le protuberanze filamentose della corona si estenderanno non solo dalla regione equatoriale, come nei periodi di minima attività, bensì da tutto il disco solare, diramandosi in ogni direzione proprio come nei disegni dei bambini. Osservare l'eclissi dal vivo o attraverso le numerose dirette disponibili online sarà un'occasione da non perdere, anche perché in Italia dovremo attendere altri tre anni per ammirare uno spettacolo simile.
