Stellantis, multinazionale che diversifica i marchi italiani oltre-confine e mette nel nostro Paese gli operai in cassa integrazione, andrebbe ricordata. È l’esperimento dell’Alfa Romeo in versione economica. Una suggestione per industrializzare il Sud, ma anche un’illusione della quale ll Presidente del Biscione, Giuseppe Luraghi, aveva previsto il fallimento ◆ Il corsivetto di VITTORIO EMILIANI► Ricordo l’incontro affascinante con Giuseppe Luraghi ancora presidente dell’Alfa Romeo. Era in grande imbarazzo nel senso che l’azionista di maggioranza cioè il governo gli aveva chiesto di mettere in cantiere un’auto economica per lo stabilimento campano dell’area Cassa per il Mezzogiorno. Lo incontrai in quei giorno raccogliendo la sua amarezza: l’Alfa Romeo non era una fabbrica per auto economiche di serie, ma una fabbrica per auto comunque di élites. Difatti l’Arna che ci si intestardi a produrre non ebbe praticamente mercato. Ma il governo e le Partecipazioni Statali insistettero per il modello economico e nacque a Pomigliano d’Arco l’Alfasud 1300 cc. a trazione anteriore. Io, che avevo una Alfetta 1800 che in autostrada sfiorava i 190 km all’ora, l’acquistai. In salita era grintosa e rampante, ma aveva seri problemi alla carrozzeria che si arrugginiva facilmente e in modo diffuso. Ricordo che durante una sosta a Modena il meccanico mi disse che l’Alfasud era l’auto che riparavano di meno. Inoltre sarei potuto salire in Valtellina senza catene.  Ma, ripeto, la ruggine era un problema molto serio. Per cui dovetti cambiare l’Alfasud con un altro modello. Del resto Luraghi lo aveva largamente previsto: l’Alfa Romeo non era un marchio per auto economiche di serie. Riconvertirla in quel senso equivaleva a snaturarla. E così era stato. Io stesso mi ero trovato benissimo con la Giulietta 1300 e mio fratello Andrea con una coupé Alfa Romeo. Quello era il suo segmento di mercato e non l’altro della utilitaria di massa tipico del resto della Fiat. All’epoca lavoravo al “Messaggero” come inviato e percorrevo anche 35.000 km all’anno per ragioni di servizio.
