E forse era prevedibile, perché nel nostro inconscio collettivo la Ferrari non è soltanto uno dei marchi più noti del mondo, ma anche e soprattutto un patrimonio nazionale, da difendere dalle ingerenze esterne. E che cosa c’è di più estraneo alla figura dell’emiliano Enzo Ferrari di un regista come Mann, considerato un maestro del cinema d’azione hollywoodiano, e della scelta di un attore americano come Adam Driver per interpretarlo?A Venezia, dove il film era stato presentato, Pierfrancesco Favino aveva invocato la necessità di usare attori italiani per interpretare personaggi italiani, suscitando un certo consenso. Però bisogna dire che Driver, forte anche di un fisico imponente come quello del vero Ferrari, non se l’è cavata male. E cosi dicasi di Penelope Cruz, nei panni di Laura, la moglie tradita del Drake, e di Shailene Woodley nei panni di Lina Lardi, madre di suo figlio Piero. Tutta la vicenda si svolge nel 1957, un anno difficile per la Ferrari, che vende auto sportive allo scopo di finanziare le corse, mentre i principali concorrenti seguono la strategia opposta, e cioè corrono per incentivare le vendite. Le Ferrari vincono, ma il prezzo da pagare è molto alto.
