(askanews) - L'Università di Milano-Bicocca e l'Istituto Nazionale di Ottica del Cnr, in collaborazione con Glass to Power SpA e il Laboratorio LENS, hanno realizzato la prima finestra "ibrida" intelligente, capace di generare energia elettrica dalla luce solare e di ricevere dati attraverso la luce visibile in modalità wireless. I risultati dello studio sono stati pubblicati su Advanced Energy Materials.La sostenibilità energetica e l'interconnessione sono i due pilastri principali su cui si baseranno le smart cities del futuro, con dispositivi energetici intelligenti e connessi, completamente integrati negli edifici, capaci di soddisfare rigorose normative e di avere un impatto energetico minimo. In quest'ambito, nel lavoro pubblicato sulla rivista Advanced Energy Materials, il team composto da ricercatori dell'Università di Milano-Bicocca e di Cnr-Ino, in collaborazione Glass to Power SpA e LENS, ha realizzato e studiato il primo esempio di finestra fotovoltaica dotata anche della capacità di scambiare dati attraverso la luce mediante la tecnologia VLC (Visible Light Communication). "Il dispositivo è stato realizzato sfruttando nuovi concentratori solari luminescenti a Quantum Dots, soddisfa tutte le normative internazionali sugli elementi fotovoltaici e edilizi, ed è stato caratterizzato dal punto di vista di resa energetica di conversione solare secondo i più alti standard internazionali", spiega Sergio Brovelli, docente dell'Università di Milano-Bicocca e Presidente del Consiglio Scientifico di Glass to Power SpA."La finestra "ibrida" messa a punto ha una funzione duale: viene sfruttata non solo come elemento fotovoltaico per la conversione di energia solare in elettrica, ma per la prima volta anche come efficace sistema di ricezione di dati wireless codificati come modulazione di intensità nella luce emessa dalle comuni sorgenti LED, a frequenze impercettibili per l'occhio umano, sfruttando la tecnologia VLC", continua Jacopo Catani, primo ricercatore del Cnr-Ino.L'uso di sorgenti LED bianche per comunicare dati, oltreché per illuminare, prende anche il nome di Light-Fidelity (Li-Fi). Il dispositivo è in grado di funzionare come ricevitore VLC anche sotto la luce solare diretta, combinando così funzioni di energia e connettività wireless in una soluzione realistica per edifici intelligenti e sostenibili. La capacità di generare energia elettrica raccogliendo la luce solare o artificiale e al contempo di trasmettere dati apre anche la possibilità di realizzare dispositivi intelligenti autoalimentati, che possano scambiare dati in modo pervasivo e sostenibile senza sostanziale impatto energetico o sulla salute umana.Questo risultato pionieristico rappresenta un importante passo verso l'utilizzo sostenibile e green delle tecnologie ottiche nelle smart cities e nell'implementazione dell'Internet of Things (IoT) e della rivoluzione promessa dai sistemi di comunicazione di sesta generazione (6G).Credits immagine: Rivista Advanced.
